Monnica L. Barreras

Monnica was born and raised in Roswell, NM. She attended the University of New Mexico where she earned a Business Degree (BBA), graduating summa cum laude (highest honors) in 2006.  She then graduated from UNM School of Law in 2009 with her Juris Doctor degree.  While in law school, she served as the Women’s Law Caucus President, the Law School Admissions Committee Representative and was an active member in other student organizations. She represented UNM Law School on the Hispanic Bar Moot Court team at the National Competition in 2008 in New York.

She began her legal studies as a law clerk at the United States Attorney’s Office in the narcotics and immigration division. She did her law school clinical work defending clients in State District Court, Metropolitan Court, and Juvenile Court where she received the UNM Law School clinical honors award for her representation skills. After working as the only Associate Attorney at Bowles and Crow for three years, in October 2012, she opened her own law practice.

 She focuses her practice in the areas of criminal defense, civil rights, business law, and employment law.  She is also a former board member of the New Mexico Women's Bar Association,  New Mexico Juvenile Justice Advisory Committee and the Hispanic Bar.
